Cedaredge, Colorado

Cedaredge is the northern boundary of a large thriving area called The Surface Creek Valley. The entire valley offers panoramic views of mountains, mesas and river valleys. Because of the unique location, we have our own delightful four-season climate of Christmas card snows and comfortable summers tempered by the 6100 foot elevation. Located along a scenic by-way and near public lands including the Grand Mesa National Forest, Cedaredge and the Delta County communities are not far from many of the country's premier resorts including Aspen, Vail, Crested Butte, Gunnison, Glenwood Springs, Ridgway and Telluride.

We still retain a small town flavor, atmosphere and lifestyle, and we have convenient access to airline and rail transportation in Grand Junction and Montrose, about an hour away. Our mild climate and many varied recreational opportunities make Western Colorado a desirable retirement area and a great place to raise your family.

A visit to Pioneer Town is like a trip back more than 100 years, into the early years of the county. Pioneer Town is located just two blocks south of downtown Cedaredge and is operated by the Surface Creek Valley Historical Society. The entrance to Pioneer Town is through the Cedaredge Welcome Center Visitors Information Center. The Welcome Center has free informational brochures about Cedaredge, the Surface Creek Valley, the Scenic Byway and Grand Mesa.
Pioneer Town Museum has an outstanding collection of historic artifacts, including an entire Main Street with wooden sidewalks and every shop you would find 100 years ago. Save some time for the working blacksmith shop, Sand Creek School House, homesteaders' log cabin, Sutherland Indian Museum, Doris Doll and Toy House, famous Bar-I Silos and the Austin Railroad Depot. Probably the most visible structure at Pioneer Town is the historic Stolte Packing Shed, a Cedaredge landmark for decades in the fruit packing business. This stately building has been converted into a unique multiple-use facility. Visit upstairs to get a glimpse of early apple processing techniques!

Visitors can complete their tour with a moment of meditation in the award-winning Chapel of the Cross and enjoy the magnificent leaded glass windows and the impressive two-story-high cross that dominates the view from within. Host weddings or other special events here!  Pioneer Town is open to the public from Memorial Day weekend through Color Sunday in late September. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Special tours for groups are available year around by appointment.

The first weekend of October and harvest time will find you in a transformed town during Apple Fest, with over 150 booths, a classic car show, antique tractors, live music and of course apples!  This is a favorite time for many, with the aroma of fall leaves, the harvest of peaches, apples, and other delicious high-country fruits, a locally-renowned book sale of epic proportions sponsored by The Friends of the Cedaredge Library, and the shared smiles of autumn-inspired people as they mill about.  Come share in the enchanting occasion that is Apple Fest.

If you love the out-of-doors, a unique 18-hole challenge awaits you in beautiful Cedaredge, Colorado at DeerCreek Village Golf Club. With two distinct nines, and four sets of tees, DeerCreek is as difficult as you want to make it. At 6100 feet, with plenty of trees and water, you can beat the heat and get a true perspective of golf on the Sunny Side of Grand Mesa! You play the game; now challenge your game!
